  • Working together - Appletons & Weston Chook Grow Weston Chook Grow Real Proteins

Chook Grow Pellets 25kg | Weston

For pullets being reared for table egg production. A formulation with essential nutrients of protein, energy and minerals in readiness for a healthy, productive laying life. Chook Grow is a complete feed formulated as a follow-on feed from Weston Chicks Choice. At Appletons we prefer to grow our birds (both commercial hybrids and heritage) on to point of lay using the Weston Chicks Choice as it has higher levels of protein essential for health, growth and feather production. Chickens do not stop growing at 8 weeks. We would only recommend swopping over to Chook Grow if you personally had issues with the coccidiostat added to the Chicks Choice or are feeding a range of ages of poultry together in one pen and you have laying hens that have access to the same feed. Chook Grow does not contain any coccidiostat (which the Chicks Choice does) There is a 3 to 4% difference in the protein levels which we feel is significant – so if you can keep them on the Chicks Choice then that is what we recommend.  Analysis: 15% crude protein, 3% fat, 4% fibre, 1% salt Weston Milling Stockfeed has the point of difference over most other brands as it is the only commercial poultry feed (here on the South Island) that contains quality ruminant proteins. We see the results in our poultry every day and it is good to hear the positive feedback from our customers once they start using Weston Milling poultry feed.  Please note we do not usually keep Chook Grow in stock at our store. If you would like a bag please let us know we will need a week to order it in. Thank you. Cracked for easier digestion. Kibbled maize is whole maize (corn) that has been roller crushed to a smaller size. It is ideal for feeding out to silkies, bantams, pheasants, doves, pigeons, partridge and of course regular-sized chooks! Kibbled maize is also ideal for horses, pigs, sheep, goats, cattle and deer.  We kibble to order, so your bag will be fresh.  Please note our kibbled maize is whole corn fed through rollers that crush and crack the grains. • Large Step On Feeder 12kg | Appletons Appletons Large Step On Feeder for Laying Hens

Large Step On Feeder 12kg | Appletons

    53 reviews

Our best selling auto feeder! Stop feeding the sparrows, rats and mice and keep your chicken feed clean 😊 Benefits: For chook keepers that keep 4 to 20 hens -however, the feeder will need to be topped up more regularly if you keep more hens. Remember an average laying hen eats app. 130 - 140g of layer pellets a day so the consumption vs when you need to fill it up can be calculated. Suitable for all standard sized birds (brown shavers and hylines), heavy breeds and some of the larger light breeds (leghorns). This brilliant step-on auto chicken feeder has a large capacity and holds approximately 12kg. Hens are foragers and do best eating little and often throughout the day so feed on demand works best. Reduces hierarchy in flocks ensuring all birds get enough feed which results in happy hens and better egg production. Vermin-proof: Keeps out rats, mice and sparrows ensuring your poultry feed is not contaminated. Keeps feed clean and helps to reduce the worm burden. Ideal for busy people that are not always home early in the morning and late afternoon to feed their hens and those of us that go away for weekends. Reduces feed wastage and saves money. Open feeders can lose up to 40% of feed to sparrows and other birds. NZ made - supporting local NZ business The unit is made from aluminium with alloy rivets, plated steel hinges, nuts and bolts so it keeps working in adverse weather. Includes our very own Appletons training instructions which are clear and easy to follow. Training is very important and not to be rushed or shortened. Chickens need to be POL (point of lay) 18+ weeks of age and older for training. Dimensions: App. 51cm (long) x 46cm (wide) x 22cm (height) What Size is Best? The large step on feeder or mini step on feeder? The large size is more suitable for a larger walk-in hen house especially if you plan to position the feeder inside the hen house or outside in the poultry run (protected from the weather) where there is plenty of space. The large step on is twice as wide as the mini and therefore offers more hens the opportunity to feed at once (+ it also holds more food.) The mini 6kg version is perfect for smaller flocks living in movable chicken coops where the footprint of the coop is small and space is a premium. Using two mini step on feeders in a larger flock (instead of one large one) can work well as two feeding stations can dissipate any possible dominance over the feeder by a bossy hen/s and also help when introducing new birds. "At one stage we were feeding all the neighbourhood sparrows, mice and rats and it was costing us a fortune. When we moved to these step-on feeders (now 16 years ago!) and got the chooks trained to use them our feed bill was considerably reduced and the feed now stays clean and is no longer contaminated with mouse/sparrow droppings. Plus our chook houses are also now free of sparrow droppings and easier to keep clean reducing risk from contamination like salmonella and other diseases carried by the wild birds and rodents. Definitely worth the investment. It will pay for itself in no time!" Please note this size feeder is not suitable for bantams, we do have the Appletons Bantam Step On Feeder for smaller sized birds. Our Appletons Mini Step On Feeder is identical to our Large Step On Feeder but only half the width - ideal if you have a smaller flock of 3 to 5 standard-sized hens and/or need to fit it in a small run/coop.

Best automatic bantam step on feeder. Perfect auto feeder for all small poultry breeds: Bantams, Hamburghs, Campines, Lavender Araucanas and pheasant We have been so impressed with these Bantam Step On Feeders for feeding our smaller ladies. 😊 The Pekin Bantams took to them quickly (little birds with high IQ's!) and now 16 years on they are still the perfect auto feeder for our smaller breeds. We are saving on feed as the sparrows just don't get the opportunity to help themselves any longer. PLUS we have been using them in our pheasant flights and they have been working well with the ringnecks, ornamental pheasants and our smaller ornamental ducks.  Benefits: Perfect for 3 to 6 bantam-sized chickens: this feeder will need to be topped up more regularly if you keep a larger number of hens.  Suitable for all smaller sized fowl (Bantams, Hamburghs, Campines, Lavender Araucanas and pheasant) This brilliant step-on auto bantam feeder holds approximately 4kg. • Feed-o-matic treadle feeder Olba Feed-o-matic Chicken Feeder

    Feed-o-matic Treadle Feeder | Olba

    65 reviews

Suitable for all chicken breeds. 4 sizes to suit your requirements: 5kg, 8kg, 12kg and a 20kg capacity Benefits: The unique treadle operation of this feeder will ensure your poultry has all-day access to their favourite feed.   No risk of injury with the unique treadle system which allows your poultry to walk on to the ramp which activates an inwards opening trap door, giving free access to their feed. The operating system is almost silent which will not spook extra timid poultry.  The feeder can be operated by all poultry big and small from the smallest of bantams to the largest of heavy breeds. The adjustable weight of the pedal allows adjustments for birds as little as 250 grams to open, if this is too light, then simply adjust to one of the 5 different settings.  Built from robust heavy gauge galvanised steel and mouse-proof. They will also work well to keep the sparrow and other wild birds out too. Please note trough and treadle are plastic and not rat proof. For best results, we recommend using this feeder undercover and out of the weather.   Useful Info on Training Training takes approximately a week. We recommend not feeding the chooks anywhere else or out of any other feeders whilst in training so they learn to use their new feeder. Try placing a stone on the treadle for the first 3 or 4 days so they learn where the food is, then remove the weight and let them learn to stand on the treadle to expose the feed. They will quickly get the hang of it. To keep the best flow into the feed trough we recommend using a small even-sized pellet in these feeders like the Weston layer pellets. Dry mash due to its powdery consistency will require regular cleaning out to keep the flow moving. Do not use feeds that contains molasses, neither are they good for your hens they also clog the feeder eg: Chook Tucker. • Nettex Poultry Wound Spray 250ml Wound Care Spray for Poultry Nettex

Poultry Wound Spray 250ml | Nettex

    7 reviews

Antiseptic spray for wounds on poultry. BB 04/2028 Nettex Would Spray is an antiseptic aerosol spray designed for easy application to wounds on pets and poultry. Many poultry wounds are caused by pecks, spurs, or claws, which can introduce germs. Nettex Wound Spray is a highly effective cleanser with powerful antibacterial action, specifically formulated to treat superficial wounds and abrasions on chickens. It works quickly to kill bacteria and prevent infection. It can also be used to treat problems like bumblefoot in chickens or issues caused by pecking. A must-have in any poultry first-aid kit! Antibacterial – providing effective protection from the risk of bacterial infection. Leaves a violet coloured residue when applied to indicate that the affected area has been covered and to disguise the appearance of blood, to help prevent pecking or bullying. An essential tool for minor wound management. Aerosol spray for precise and easy application. HOW TO USE Separate the injured bird from others to avoid potential cannibalism. Clean wound and spray area from about 15cm (6”). Repeat daily or as necessary. Do not use on large open wounds that may require stitching or hydrogel bandaging. We recommend using gloves during application as any purple spray will also stain your skin. At Appletons we like having wound spray on hand to treat any wounds or assist with feather-pecking. The violet colouring masks the colour of blood and the spray does an excellent job of healing the wound fast.

  • Nettex Anti Feather-Pecking Spray 250ml Anti-Feather Pecking Spray Nettex

    Anti-Feather Pecking Spray 250ml | Nettex

    27 reviews

Anti-feather pecking spray for poultry. BB April 2027 Nettex Anti-Feather Pecking Spray is a dual-purpose spray to help prevent pecking among chickens and cleanse minor wounds. Deterrent spray with a strong odour and foul taste to help discourage biting, plucking and cannibalism. Contains antibacterial agents that will help cleanse minor skin wounds and abrasions and support the healing process. Cannibalism and feather pecking are complex behavioural problems of chickens. Boredom can increase the incidence and can lead to minor wounds and infection. Symptoms include pecking at the feet, vent, head, wings and feather pulling. A must-have in the poultry first-aid kit! HOW TO USE Disposable gloves must be worn Shake well before use Spray for approximately 3-4 seconds around the pecked area Repeat every 3-5 days until pecking has stopped Cannibalism and feather pecking are complex behavioural problems found in both poultry and game birds worldwide. It can affect any birds in small backyard flocks through to the large commercial flocks. One day all is fine in the pen then the next time you look it has started. There are many reasons for it happening but some of the main reasons are overcrowding, boredom, stress, pecking order, poor quality feed and disease. If it happens in your flock you need to move fast and treat birds and if necessary remove wounded birds. Symptoms include pecking at the feet (usually very young chicks) and the vents, tails, wings and sometimes the head and necks of young and mature birds. It can also include feather pulling. Cannibalism and feather pecking may lead to wounding leaving the skin open to bacterial infection. In severe cases, this leads to the loss of blood and leads to general anaemia. If the feather pecking and cannibalism is not caught in time birds can be almost eaten alive and sometimes 'gutted' if the wounds start around the tail and vent. If you find it in your flock act quickly. Most of us that keep poultry will find this a very useful spray as feather-pecking can be a real problem at times in flocks.  Please note if feather pecking has been happening for a while in your flock the 'action of feather pecking' becomes a habit. Habits can be hard to break. Removing the pecker (the bird responsible and usually the bird showing no visible signs of feather loss) from the situation is often the best thing to do. Treat the affected birds in the flock and give them an opportunity to regrow their feathers - which can take a good 4 to 8 weeks. If your chickens have wounds from pecking please remove them and treat them with Nettex Wound Spray. Do not leave chickens with visible fresh wounds in your flock as it is too tempting for other chickens to peck them.

  • Scaly Leg Spray 500ml Poultry Leg Spray for scaly leg mite

    Scaly Leg Spray 500ml

    53 reviews

Very effective organic treatment for poultry scaly leg mite. This treatment is totally organic. A mixture of Cottonseed Oil and Eucalyptus. Instructions.Spray oil on legs, avoiding the feathers. Saturate the affected areas.  "Poultry Leg Spray" works by suffocation. Gently massage the legs, ensuring all areas are covered. Repeat every 3-4 days for 2 to 3 weeks.  Do not pick off the scale debris, as it can cause bleeding. The chickens will help by pecking the debris off the leg themselves. In cases where a chicken's scales are lost, they will not regrow.  Even if your other chickens do not have signs of Scaly Leg Mites, it is recommended that you treat them as well so that these Scaly Leg Mites do not establish themselves in your flock. It is contagious. Check their legs regularly throughout the year. There is no egg-withholding period.  Cleanliness and sanitary measures around the chicken coop are in order because the mites can live for long periods in cracks and crevices without feed and water. Please store the bottle at room temperature and best used when the contents is warm. If it is too cold, the liquid will not move through the sprayer. Do Your Chickens Have Scaly Leg Mite?Scaly legs on chickens are caused by a parasitic mite (Knemidocoptes mutans) that burrow under the scales on the chicken's legs. The damaged tissue weeps, which is what these mites feed on. Signs and Symptoms. Raised scales on the legs. Crusty legs. Lameness (severe cases). Can also be found on the comb and wattles. In the early stages of the infection, the chicken will have mild irritation. It takes several months of infection before the scales on the legs start to lift. Repeat application is recommended. You should treat all of your birds even if only one bird has scaly legs, as scaly leg mite is very contagious and it is highly likely that all of your birds will have the mite.Scaly foot is a bird ailment that is common among caged birds and also affects many other bird species. It is caused by mites in the genus Knemidocoptes which burrow into the bird's flesh. The tunnels made by the mites within the skin cause dermatitis and scaly lesions. Scaly face is caused by the same mite responsible for scaly foot and other related mites cause depluming. The condition is transmitted from one bird to another by direct prolonged contact.

  • Sale -25% Flubenol 5% - Poultry and Pig Wormer Flubenol 5% approved wormer

Flubenol 5% | Poultry and Pig Wormer

    71 reviews

This worming treatment has no egg withholding period. Yes, you can keep eating the eggs 😊 Flubenol™ 5% contains flubendazole, a broad-spectrum anthelmintic with high efficacy against all gastrointestinal worm species that commonly occur in poultry. It is effective against roundworms (Ascaridia galli, Heterakis gallinarum, Capillaria spp., Amidostomum anseris and Trichostrongylus tenuis), gapeworm (Syngamus trachea) and tapeworms (Raillietina sp.). Its safety profile allows a safe and secure use in most poultry species, including the breeding stock. Flubenol is a tasteless powder which is added to dry feed.  Dosage for chickens/turkeys/geese/partridge and pheasants. Dosage rate:To treat your flock mix the powder thoroughly into the feed and feed it for seven consecutive days. It needs to be thoroughly mixed through the pellets or dry mash. (Do not just sprinkle on top.) To treat a large flock (22-25 hens) mix 15g (3 teaspoons) into 21.5kg feed for chickens and geese or for a smaller flock (7-8 hens) 5g (one teaspoon) per 7kg feed. (please check the recommended daily ration on your feed bag to determine the exact amount). To treat pheasants and partridge mix 15g (3 teaspoons) with 11kg feed. To treat turkeys mix 15g (3 teaspoons) in with 32kg feed. In case of infestation with tapeworm, double the dose for seven consecutive days. Do not use this product to treat pigeons or parrots. How to dose: Calculate what 1 hen eats daily. The best way to do this is to look at the bag of layer feed you are using which will indicate the recommended daily feed ration on the back. For Weston Layer feed it is app. 130g per day per hen.  Count the number of hens in your flock (best to treat everyone). Multiply the number of hens by the daily ration for one hen. This total will indicate how much feed your flock eats in a day. Then multiply this number by seven (the number of days you will be treating) If using an auto feeder empty the feeder and fill it with the calculated amount of medicated feed for the week. (If your calculations are correct then this quantity should feed them for the week)   Let your hens self-help for seven days.  On the eighth day remove and empty the feeder. Replace with non-medicated fresh feed. For best results we recommend sanitising/ cleaning your hen house at the same time  using Poultry Safeguard. For more info on deworming your flock read here. Follow up TreatmentAll poultry worms have a life cycle of between 2 to 7 weeks. It is really important to break this life cycle so a repeat treatment should be administered within the pre-patient period of the worm/s (PPP). The PPP is the time period in days from worm egg ingestion by the chicken until the adult worm starts producing eggs in the chicken and sheds these eggs into the environment. When dealing with specific problem worm species, we always consider the PPP of the worm in question, because you want to try and keep your Flubenol treatment interval just shorter than this time period, so that you effectively prevent further contamination of the environment with worm eggs, and thereby just continue the infective cycle. So for instance with normal large roundworm (Ascarid) infection, a longer treatment interval of around 5-6 weeks is what we suggest (the life cycle or PPP of this worm species is the longest of all the commonly found poultry worms). However, with Gapeworm, the PPP is around 2-3 weeks. So to effectively control the burden for this worm species we recommend following up with another treatment 2 weeks after completion of the first. We recommend doing a follow-up treatment of Flubenol within the PPP for the worm you are treating. The good news - no withholding period for eggs and meat for poultry. Symptoms following overdosing: Flubenol 5% is non-toxic; even considerable overdosing does not produce side effects.  In poultry, even three times the highest dose for seven days had no negative effects on egg production, egg quality, hatching results and growth of offspring.Treatment with Flubenol can only be effective if the hygiene of pig pens and poultry housing is observed. Available in a 600g tub and in smaller sachets for treating smaller flocks. Treatment for Pigs Flubenol is effective against the mature and immature larvae and eggs of the following species of worm: Large Roundworm, Red Stomach Worm, Nodular Worm Lungworm, Threadworm and Whipworm. Individual treatment: (Single administration).Add 1 g of Flubenol for each 10 kg bodyweight onto the finished feed. (This is equivalent to 5 mg of flubendazole per one kg bodyweight). One 13 g measuring spoon treats one 130 kg sow. An easy way of administering the dose is to add it to a buttered bread roll and feed it to your pig. Treat twice a year unless recommended otherwise by your veterinary surgeon.  Pigs brought onto the premises should be treated on arrival and before mixing with other animals.  Animals must not be slaughtered for human consumption within 7 days of treatment.
