Fenugreek Trigonella foenum-graecum
Fenugreek is an annual plant that is grown mainly in India, Pakistan, and China. Fernugreek seeds possess many beneficial effects such as hypoglycemic, anti-helminthic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial properties. Nutritional-wise, fenugreek is a rich source of protein, fatty acids, and minerals such as phosphorus, iron, zinc, magnesium, and calcium. It also contains many flavonoids, polysaccharides, saponins, and alkaloids (trigonelline and choline). Specific applications studied in poultry include:
-
Antidiabetic: Fenugreek contains an amino acid called 4-hydroxy isoleucine, which works to normalize glucose metabolism by increasing the body's production of insulin when blood sugar levels are high.
-
Anti-stress: A research study conducted on broilers showed that their body weight increased significantly and had improved feed conversion ratios when they were provided higher amounts of fenugreek seed powder in their diet (10 to 40 g/kg).
Kelp boosts the immune system and increases energy.
Fenugreek is an excellent anti-stress remedy.
Bladderwrack or Kelp is high in antioxidants, including carotenoids and flavonoids, which help fight against disease-causing free radicals. Antioxidant minerals, such as manganese and zinc, help combat oxidative stress and may help protect cardiovascular health and prevent cancer. By adding sea kelp to your flock's diet, you have the opportunity to improve their nutrition, boost their immune response and promote egg laying. In the diet of chickens kelp can improve immunity, antioxidant capacity and performance.
Siberian Ginseng is a popular herbal plant widely used for its variety of effects in both traditional and research-based medicines. It benefits are anti-fatigue, anti-oxidant, hepatoprotective, anti-tumour and anti-inflammatory.
