Is rural delivery extra?

Yes, rural delivery and areas classified as non-urban delivery by Post Haste Couriers encur an additional rural delivery fee.

Sometimes, our system might not correctly identify rural delivery addresses, and you might not see a rural delivery fee added. What are the delivery timeframes?

Delivery is available on working week days only - Monday to Friday.
There are no deliveries on weekends and public holidays.
South Island residential & business addresses are usually next day delivery but can take a day or two longer. Please allow 3 to 4 working days before to contacting us.
North Island residential & business addresses are sent on the Poste Haste standard inter island two-day delivery ticket but can take a day or two longer depending on freight volumes. Please allow 4 to 5 working days before to making contact with us.
Rural addresses will add an extra 24 to 48 hours onto of the above delivery time frames. Post Haste and their Contractors do their best to deliver within the allocated time frames. We do not offer refunds on shipping if your parcel is not delivery within your expected delivery time frame. Unfortunately delays due to weather events and natural disasters are out of everyone's control and we cannot plan and compensate for these.

How can I get cheaper delivery?

Sending to a business address works out the best value.
Residential deliveries require a residential ticket so the cost is a little more than business.
If your address is rural then a rural ticket is required. This rural ticket adds more to the cost of delivery as the parcel needs to be handed over to the rural delivery driver. So, in a nutshell, to save on delivery get your order sent to a town or business delivery address if you wish to save $$$!

Will there be additional charges if I live on Waiheke, Great Barrier, Chatham Islands and Stewart Island?

Courier prices are based on all mainland addresses for both North and South Islands. If your address is on Waiheke Island, Chatham Islands, Great Barrier or Stewart Island we will notify you of the total additional surchargecharge/s when we receive and process your order.
Waiheke Island: The additional cost is $42 per parcel. This price is the carton rate Post Haste gets charged by a third-party agent. The third-party agent ships it and delivers it around the island. Great Barrier: The additional charge is $53.76 (incl.) per parcel. A good alternative is to get your order sent to a family or friend's address in Auckland or maybe if you work in Auckland during the week to your work address. We can also send c/o Great Barrier Air Desk, Auckland and you arrange delivery from there at your cost.
 Chatham Islands: An additional charge of $25 plus $5.00 per 1kg thereafter will be added on receipt of the order.
 Stewart Island: An additional manual charge of $9.50 per parcel will be applied on receipt of your order. Please note these prices can change without notice.

Can you deliver to a P O Box number?

No, we cannot courier to a PO Box number. We need a physical address please.

Do you offer overnight delivery?

We no longer offer overnight shipping to the north island.

Why does my address on my parcel appear different to the address I gave you on my order?

Your address may appear slightly different on your parcel address label than the one you popped in when ordering. This is because the Shipping Address API we use has access to the NZ CoreLogic Address Data. CoreLogic Address Data is trusted by the NZ Emergency Services for being the most accurate and up to date physical address data in NZ. CoreLogic addresses are not estimated, they are verified and accurately geocoded. Please note if you have an RD address you will see NZ POST now has two versions of your address - please use the non-RD version. API is the acronym for Application Programming Interface, which is a software intermediary that allows two applications to talk to each other. Each time you use an app like Facebook, send an instant message, or check the weather on your phone, you're using an API.

Why has my shipping cost changed from my original order? It can go up or down!

We will check your shipping rate is correct for your address. This is usually done on receipt of order but can also be done when your order is being processed to be shipped. Incorrect shipping can be due to various reasons: the main ones are the shipping app is momentarily down or the address fields have been populated incorrectly. We will notify you via email if their are addition courier fees to pay. We have the right to notify you of the correct rate and amend the shipping on your order. We will also part refund should we manage to combine shipping and save you, our valued customer, some $$$. In the case where our API has overcharged due to a shipping malfunction we are more than happy to refund the difference.

What packaging do you use?

We do our very best each time we fulfil an order to use recycled packaging paper, strapping and recycled cardboard cartons. Thank you to the local Richmond companies that give us the opportunity to give their unwanted boxes and used packing paper a second life! It is getting harder these days as most supermarkets now crush all their boxes. We are using paper bags where we can. Please note we still need to send out our liquids in plastic bags. If you prefer not to have yours in a plastic bag let us know. We use a simple twist tie so you can re-use the bag. All our 25kg bags of Westons are sent out in large heavy-duty plastic bags 😊 Please re-cycle these where you can ♻️

What time does your courier driver pick up each day?

Our courier calls around 2pm Monday to Friday to collect our fulfilled orders. For orders received prior to 10.00 am a we will do our very best to dispatch same day. Any order received after 10 am will most likely be dispatched the following day. We do our very best to fulfil orders as quickly as we can. Check the instruction manual to find out how to do this.

Why don't you charge a flat shipping rate?

We truly appreciate your understanding when it comes to shipping costs! As a family-owned business, we face some challenges in offering the same low shipping rates that larger companies can. We do our best to keep our prices affordable, especially with recent price hikes.
Please keep in mind that our shipping fees are based on the volume of items rather than their weight, so larger items may come with a higher cost. Additionally, we can't send liquids in satchels or leg rings in envelopes due to safety regulations.
 If you happen to live in a rural area, there will most likely be an added shipping fee. To save on costs, consider having your order sent to a business address (perhaps where you work?) or to a friend or family member living in town.

Please check and confirm you have received all items in your order on arrival.

Please check your consignment carefully on delivery. Notify us immediately of any issues or any item/s are missing from your consignment. Please call us or email info@chooks.co.nz and let us know with 48 hours if there is damage so we can work to get a replacement part out to you. We have 7 days to lodge a claim with the courier and replace any missing or damaged panels. If we are not notified within 7 days unfortunately we cannot resolve any damage or loss incurred and this will be at your cost.

What happens when I order a pre-order item?

Products on pre-order will be shipped once we receive them back in stock. The additional freight or courier will be at your cost. We can either hold your entire order and send all together OR if you prefer to have some items sent ahead then best to order the pre-order product

Shipping is an additional cost and will be applied at checkout.
We ship all our timber housing, Omlet Chicken Coops , Catios and Outdoor Pet Runs with Mainfreight.
Please ensure if selecting delivery to door that trucks have the necessary access. One truck driver is allocated per truck and it is appreciated if the customer can assist with hand unloading if no loading facilities are available. Otherwise please select depot collection.
For depot collection your flat-packed hen house will fit comfortably on most standard car trailers. Please remember to leave the cage for the trailer at home and bring tie downs to secure your load.

NEW HOME MAINFREIGHT DELIVERY SURCHARGE
For all home deliveries (non-depot) Mainfreight now apply a delivery surcharge, effective 27th March 2025. This surcharge has become necessary due to the additional time and resources required for deliveries, including: increased access time for drivers, extended unloading durations, specialized fleet requirements, additional coordination with customers and lower delivery density compared to commercial locations. If you are wanting to avoid this charge please select depot collection.

FOR ALL SMALLER COOPS - Eglu Go Hutches and Eglu Go Chicken Coops -  we will manually work out the most cost effective shipping once we receive your order. If it works out cheaper to send on the courier we will! We will refund any difference plus the Mainfreight Home delivery charge (if paid as part of your order).
