  • Scarper spray deters feather-pecking and tail-biting Scarper stop spray anti-feather pecking

    'Stop' Anti-Feather Pecking Spray 400ml | Scarper

    Out of stock

Anti-feather pecking spray for poultry. A highly effective aerosol spray to combat cannibalism and feather-pecking in poultry as well as tail biting in pigs. It has a distinctive, long lasting, revolting smell which the attacking bird finds repulsive. It leaves a brown mark on the application area so disposable gloves and a mask are recommended when using this product. How To Use Wear protective gear: Use disposable gloves and a mask due to its strong smell and potential to stain. Shake well: Ensure the product is well mixed before use. Apply to the affected area: Spray around the pecked area for approximately 3-4 seconds. Repeat as needed: Re-apply every 3-5 days or until the pecking stops. Address underlying causes: Feather pecking can be a complex behavioural problem caused by boredom, overcrowding, nutritional deficiencies, or the presence of a bully hen. The spray is a deterrent, but addressing the root cause is essential for a long-term solution.  Consult a veterinarian: In severe cases of damage or persistent issues, professional advice should be sought.  Cannibalism and feather pecking are complex behavioural problems found in both poultry and game birds worldwide. It can affect any birds in small backyard flocks through to the large commercial flocks. One day all is fine in the pen then the next time you look it has started. There are many reasons for it happening but some of the main reasons are overcrowding, boredom, stress, pecking order, poor quality feed and disease. If it happens in your flock you need to move fast and treat birds and if necessary remove wounded birds. Symptoms include pecking at the feet (usually very young chicks) and the vents, tails, wings and sometimes the head and necks of young and mature birds. It can also include feather pulling. Cannibalism and feather pecking may lead to wounding leaving the skin open to bacterial infection. In severe cases, this leads to the loss of blood and leads to general anaemia. If the feather pecking and cannibalism is not caught in time birds can be almost eaten alive and sometimes 'gutted' if the wounds start around the tail and vent. If you find it in your flock act quickly. Most of us that keep poultry will find this a very useful spray as feather-pecking can be a real problem at times in flocks.  Please note if feather pecking has been happening for a while in your flock the 'action of feather pecking' becomes a habit. Habits can be hard to break. Removing the pecker (the bird responsible and usually the bird showing no visible signs of feather loss) from the situation is often the best thing to do. Treat the affected birds in the flock and give them an opportunity to regrow their feathers - which can take a good 4 to 8 weeks. If your chickens have wounds from pecking please remove them and treat them with Nettex Wound Spray. Do not leave chickens with visible fresh wounds in your flock as it is too tempting for other chickens to peck them.

  • Scaly Leg Spray 500ml Poultry Leg Spray for scaly leg mite

    Scaly Leg Spray 500ml

    54 reviews

Very effective organic treatment for poultry scaly leg mite. This treatment is totally organic. A mixture of Cottonseed Oil and Eucalyptus. Instructions.Spray oil on legs, avoiding the feathers. Saturate the affected areas.  "Poultry Leg Spray" works by suffocation. Gently massage the legs, ensuring all areas are covered. Repeat every 3-4 days for 3 to 4 weeks.  Do not pick off the scale debris, as it can cause bleeding. The chickens will help by pecking the debris off the leg themselves. In cases where a chicken's scales are lost, they will not regrow.  Even if your other chickens do not have signs of Scaly Leg Mites, it is recommended that you treat them as well so that these Scaly Leg Mites do not establish themselves in your flock. It is contagious. Check their legs regularly throughout the year. There is no egg-withholding period.  Cleanliness and sanitary measures around the chicken coop are in order because the mites can live for long periods in cracks and crevices without feed and water. Please store the bottle at room temperature and best used when the contents is warm. If it is too cold, the liquid will not move through the sprayer. Do Your Chickens Have Scaly Leg Mite?Scaly legs on chickens are caused by a parasitic mite (Knemidocoptes mutans) that burrow under the scales on the chicken's legs. The damaged tissue weeps, which is what these mites feed on. Signs and Symptoms. Raised scales on the legs. Crusty legs. Lameness (severe cases). Can also be found on the comb and wattles. In the early stages of the infection, the chicken will have mild irritation. It takes several months of infection before the scales on the legs start to lift. Repeat application is recommended. You should treat all of your birds even if only one bird has scaly legs, as scaly leg mite is very contagious and it is highly likely that all of your birds will have the mite.Scaly foot is a bird ailment that is common among caged birds and also affects many other bird species. It is caused by mites in the genus Knemidocoptes which burrow into the bird's flesh. The tunnels made by the mites within the skin cause dermatitis and scaly lesions. Scaly face is caused by the same mite responsible for scaly foot and other related mites cause depluming. The condition is transmitted from one bird to another by direct prolonged contact.

For more info on deworming your flock read here. Repeat Treatment within the PPP of the Identified Worm Follow-up TreatmentAll poultry worms have a life cycle of between 2 to 7 weeks. It is critical to break this life cycle, so a repeat treatment should be administered within the pre-patent period of the worm (PPP). The PPP is the time period in days from worm egg ingestion by the chicken until the adult worm starts producing eggs in the chicken and sheds these eggs into the environment. When dealing with specific problem worm species, we always consider the PPP of the worm in question, because you want to keep your Flubenol treatment interval just shorter than this time period, so that you effectively prevent further contamination of the environment with worm eggs, and thereby continue the infective cycle. So, for instance, with a normal large roundworm (Ascarid) infection, a longer treatment interval of around 5-6 weeks is what we suggest (the life cycle or PPP of this worm species is the longest of all the commonly found poultry worms). However, with Gapeworm, the PPP is around 2-3 weeks. So, to effectively control the burden for this worm species, we recommend following up with another treatment 2 weeks after completion of the first. We recommend doing a follow-up treatment of Flubenol within the PPP for the worm you are treating. The good news is no withholding period for eggs and meat for poultry. Symptoms following overdosing: Flubenol 5% is non-toxic; even considerable overdosing does not produce side effects.  In poultry, even three times the highest dose for seven days had no negative effects on egg production, egg quality, hatching results and growth of offspring.Treatment with Flubenol can only be effective if the hygiene of pig pens and poultry housing is observed. Available in a 600g tub and in smaller sachets for treating smaller flocks. Treatment for Pigs Flubenol 5% is effective against the mature and immature larvae and eggs of the following species of worm: Large Roundworm, Red Stomach Worm, Nodular Worm Lungworm, Threadworm and Whipworm. Individual treatment: (Single administration)Add 1 g of Flubenol for each 10 kg bodyweight onto the finished feed. (This is equivalent to 5 mg of flubendazole per one kg bodyweight). One 13 g measuring spoon treats one 130 kg sow. An easy way of administering the dose is to add it to a buttered bread roll and feed it to your pig. Treat twice a year unless recommended otherwise by your veterinary surgeon.  Pigs brought onto the premises should be treated on arrival and before mixing with other animals.  Animals must not be slaughtered for human consumption within 7 days of treatment.

  • Appletons Pour On Drench 30ml dropper bottle Pour-on Drench Appletons

    Pour-on Drench 30ml

    65 reviews

Very effective for treating poultry lice. Used with great results in poultry circles as a reliable treatment for most internal and external parasites. Generally used for the treatment of poultry lice and scaly leg mite, but will also kill any red mites that try to suck off your chicken. It is a topical treatment applied directly to the skin of the bird. It is approved for use on other farm animals but has not been officially approved for use on poultry, hence the recommended 10 day withholding period for eggs (and 63 in NZ for meat). This little bottle will treat a good number of birds.Dosage rate is 0.1ml per 1kg live body weight.Approximately 60 treatments. (calculated on 60 brown shavers that weigh 2.5kg each )Available in a dropper bottle with a nozzle and cap for handy dosing. Helpful Notes. What are you treating your birds for? Worms?  We recommend using an approved wormer for treating worms in poultry. Our recommended choice for laying birds is Flubenol, as there is no withholding period for eggs. If treating birds that are not laying then Aviverm is easier to dose. Please note with Aviverm, there is an 8-day withholding period for egg consumption. If using pour-on drench, please note it does not kill all types of internal worms. We recommend following up treatment within the prepatent period of the particular worm you are treating for. Please read our informative blog on working chickens. Lice? If you are treating for external parasites, eg, a one-off treatment usually does the trick; however, if not all birds are treated and the hen house is not thoroughly cleaned (disinfected), then birds can reinfest quickly. For best practice, we recommend checking birds after 7 to 10 days and repeating the treatment as lice eggs can hatch in this period of time. We generally inspect (physical health check) our birds 2 to 4 times a year (usually when the seasons change) and treat them accordingly for lice. We find that the pour-on drench, when dosed correctly, works brilliantly for lice control.  Read our informative blog on treating lice. Important Considerations. Off-Label Use: Cydectin is approved for use in other farm animals like cattle and sheep, but does not have an official, scientifically tested withholding period for poultry specific to the label. The recommended periods for poultry are derived from New Zealand's default withholding periods for unregistered veterinary medicines in birds ensuring human food safety. Active Ingredient Accumulation: The active ingredient, moxidectin, is highly lipophilic (fat-loving) and accumulates in fatty tissues, including the egg yolk, which causes residues to persist for a longer period. Correct Dosage: It is crucial to use the correct dosage (applied to the skin, such as under the wing or on the back of the neck)  Egg Management: Eggs laid during the withholding period should not be eaten or fed back to the flock, as this can reintroduce the chemical into the birds' systems and prolong the withdrawal period. They can, however, be used for incubation. Don’t feed them to other animals, such as dogs, as residues may affect them too. Poison. Keep away from children. Please note this is a liquid and we cannot slip it into a courier satchel - it needs to be sent in a box.

  • A natural solution to prevent red mite infestations in poultry sheds, coops, hutches or houses. Banshee red mite natural deterrent solution Hawkeye

Banshee 240ml - Red Mite Solution | Hawkeye

A natural NZ-made repellent to deter and prevent red mite infestations in poultry sheds, coops, hutches or houses. Banshee is a blend of natural plant essential oils in a mineral oil carrier, featuring emulsifiers that allow it to mix easily with water for easy application. To use, simply mix and spray the solution onto coop surfaces. There is no need to treat the birds directly. Banshee works by disrupting mite activity, encouraging them to leave treated areas and reducing infestations over time. It is a safe, effective, and easy-to-use solution for ongoing coop protection. Directions for Use:Banshee is straightforward to use, only requiring a pressurised sprayer, such as a common ‘garden sprayer’ or ‘trigger sprayer’ found in hardware stores. The birds should be moved out of the area to be treated until the spray solution has dried. The product is added to water at the correct use rate depending on the type of sprayer used: 80ml per 5 litres of water for a garden sprayer, or 16ml per litre of water. 80ml per 100m2 of treated area if a more elaborate professional or commercial sprayer is being used. FAQs Is Banshee an insecticide? No, Banshee is not an insecticide as it is designed to repel mites away from poultry housing. Does Banshee smell?Banshee is made using an essential oil blend and has a characteristic odour which comes from the essential oils used. Some people like the odour, some people don’t. Will resistance develop with Banshee? It is very unlikely that resistance will occur due to its use as a repellent and the blend of essential oils used. How do I determine how much water my sprayer applies over 100m2?A typical ‘garden sprayer’ will apply 5L of water per 100m2 of treated area which would require a dilution rate of 80 ml Banshee in 5L of water, or 16 ml Banshee per litre of water. What do you mean by 'Don't spray past the point of run off'?Products such as Banshee should be applied as a fine spray, where the spray droplets are very small. Ideally these should cover the surface evenly, but not to the point where they pool together to form larger droplets on the surface. This is called the point of run off. If this occurs these larger droplets can run (vertical) or drip (ceilings) off the surface, and means too much spray has been applied. Does Banshee Kill Mites?Unfortunately, the terms of our registration exemption state that we can only talk about the use of Banshee as a repellent. We encourage people to purchase and try Banshee to draw their own conclusions. Does Banshee work on other mites, such as Tropical Fowl Mite and Northern Fowl Mite? Both of these mite species live on the birds themselves, so require a treatment directly onto the birds. We cannot recommend that Banshee is used in this manner. Technical Information: Banshee was developed by Renovo Technologies in response to a request from a commercial grower. The commercial grower continued to use Banshee with outstanding results on flock health. The success of Banshee has encouraged Renovo Technologies to make it available to a larger group of users in pack sizes which suit all scales of poultry farming, from small urban/lifestyle through to large commercial growers. Banshee contains no synthetic insecticides and is easy to use. It is available in the following pack sizes and configurations: 240mL pack with included measuring cylinder, which is sufficient for 15L of spray mix 5L pack for commercial growers and larger-scale operations Banshee Safety Data Sheet Banshee works by repelling red mites from poultry housing and, in the process, preventing mite infestations in the birds. The essential oil blend was specifically formulated to deter red mites from a treated area, based on extensive research and consultation with a commercial grower and veterinarians in New Zealand. As can be seen in the video below, red mites will actively stay away from any surface treated with Banshee. This is a result of the essential oils used and while they smell appealing to people, they are avoided at all costs by red mites. Red mites live on surfaces and in cracks and crevices and only migrate onto the bird to feed. If the mite harbourages in chicken housing are not attractive places for red mites to congregate then they move out and away from the birds. This reduces the ease of getting a blood feed from the birds and so reduces the egg laying from the female red mites.A repeated program of treatments should see the numbers of red mites lessen through attrition described above and eventually eliminate their presence form the chicken coop completely. Banshee has a number of benefits over other products which are used for red mites: Assessed to be exempt from regulations by the ACVM Safer with low toxicity from natural essential oils instead of harsh synthetic chemicals No crystalline silica, a cancer causing impurity found in diatomaceous earth Low residual product Applied to surfaces, not directly to the birds resulting in less stress on the birds

  • Coxiprol Solution 1L and 250mL variants Coxiprol Solution anti-coccidial treatment

    Coxiprol Solution

    17 reviews

Coxiprol is essential to have handy when raising young birds. EXP 11/2027 Coccidiosis is an intestinal parasite that exists just about everywhere. It can take a heavy toll on chicks, starting from about three weeks of age. The parasite multiplies greatly in the gut of the chick, and vast numbers of "oocysts" (think of them as eggs) come out in the manure. Chicks raised on litter floors scratch and peck at the litter, looking for food, and become infected. The explosive multiplication of the coccidia can lead to dead, stunted, and sick chicks. Chicks that are exposed to only low levels of coccidia become immune without becoming sick. Control is achieved by breaking the reproductive cycle. Chicks raised on wire floors don't get coccidiosis because they don't have enough contact with the manure. Chicks raised on free-range from a very early age tend not to get it because they also don't have enough exposure. Chicks raised on old litter (used for at least six months) tend not to get it because the litter eventually harbours microscopic creatures that eat coccidia. Medicated chick starter contains drugs that suppress coccidia directly. Wet litter, crowding, intermittent feeding, and any type of stress tend to increase coccidiosis. If the feeders are empty, the chicks will spend more time nosing around in the litter. If you have an outbreak of coccidiosis, - the first signs are usually visible as ‘bloody’ poop. A must-have if hatching and raising your own chicks! Read our blog on CoccidiosisTreating CoccidiosisAnticoccidial drugs are very effective. The danger zone is usually around 3 to 7 weeks. Keep chicks on a crumble that contains low levels of coccidiostat. With a serious outbreak, you need to put a coccidiostat in the water, since sick chicks that will not eat will still drink. It is worth having an anticoccidial drug like Coxiprol on hand, if caught earlier enough and treated, the chicks bounce back quickly. Available in a 250ml and a 1L bottle. The bottle may differ from the one in the image.

  • Smooch Doctor Pet Healing Cream Doctor Pet by Smooch

Doctor Pet Healing Balm | Smooch

    3 reviews

Miracle pet balm. An anti-bacterial and anti-fungal balm with great healing properties.Smooch is an NZ owned and operated company that makes natural healthcare products for humans and their pets. This balm originally came about as the owners' pet dog Tui suffered from contact dermatitis from flea bites (she was flea treated but they still affected her if one landed), also from grass and plants, particularly Wandering Jew. Doctor Pet can be used on sores, scratches, rashes, eczema, liver spots, bites, after an operation, protection from the sun or to ease sunburn. Promotes healing through daily application to the problem area of natural healing ingredients. Deters flies from an open sore. Apply Doctor Pet daily for full benefits. Distract pets immediately after application to allow the product to absorb, approximately 2-3 minutes. Like all Smooch products, there’s nothing in Doctor Pet that they can’t eat. There are many plants and grasses that can result in an allergic reaction for animals but Wandering Jew (aka Tradescantia and Wandering Willie) is a succulent plant that commonly causes contact dermatitis in many animals.  Doctor Pet can be rubbed on pets skin and between toes before or after a walk (or both) to assist repairing the skin damage and possibly prevent itchy bellies due to the thin film it creates on their skin. Can be used on dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens. Ingredients: Fijian Niu Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Sesame Oil, Hemp Oil, Plant-based Vitamin E,  Smooch has had a lot of success with this product and wish you well trying it on your pet. Feedback has been very positive with many comments like "Thank you, you have saved us thousands!"

    The Chicken Swing

    12 reviews

The ultimate toy for chickens.  Following its huge success in the USA and the UK, The Chicken Swing is here in NZ, and it's ready to bring fun to all our feathered friends. Chicken toys don't get any better than this! Suitable for use in any chicken run. Chickens Love to Swing! All chicken keepers know that birds love to perch and they will hop on to anything they can lay their feet on to give them a good view of the world. The Chicken Swing is a great perch idea because it provides more than just a place to sit - it actually swings! The patented design allows chickens to pump the swing themselves, with no need for a friendly push from the owner. Shaped like a mailbox, with a corn-like texture for grip, the Chicken Swing allows chickens of all types and ages to torque the perch. Quite simply, your hens will be swinging themselves silly in no time. The Best Boredom Buster for Chickens Ideal for hanging in any chicken coop, enclosure or chicken run, The Chicken Swing is a great hen toy that will reduce boredom and keep your pets hentertained. They'll love being able to hop up as they please, stretch their wings and swing back and forth above their pals. Synchronised swinging is also very much acceptable, should your chickens decide to share their new toy. Made from safe quality parts that are built to last. The Chicken Swing is suitable for poultry of all ages and breeds. The Chicken Swing has a raised corn-like surface that is easy for hens to grip with their feet, ensuring they feel stable during play time. Installing and adjusting The Chicken Swing is easy with its secure, simple to attach, plastic rope buckles. Attach the optional cross member to the top of your chicken run to make The Chicken Swing even more sturdy and secure. Although it is best to introduce chickens to the swing when they are young, adults will soon get the hang of it too. Attach The Chicken Swing so it hangs close to the ground, and as your chicks or chickens get used to climbing on, increase the height. Eventually, you will want it hanging high enough so as not to be an obstacle to any hens on the ground. Perch measures 16.25" in length. The Chicken Swing is a fantastic accessory for every chicken keeping area, and you are sure to henjoy watching your pets in action as much as they enjoy using it.  10 Steps to Swing - Click here for 10 easy steps to help you get your chickens swinging!

Peck Toy Treat Dispenser | Omlet

    22 reviews

Happy hens are busy hens! Omlet’s Pendant and Poppy Peck Toys are the great interactive feed toys your chickens have been waiting for. They combine fun, enriching entertainment with a tasty and rewarding flow of treats. Simple to install in any chicken coop or chicken run. The Peck Toy can be filled with corn, chicken feed, mixed grit or any other combination of your flock's favourite hard treats. Once filled it is guaranteed to become the centre of attention! Cleverly designed to provide a slow release of treats, the Peck Toy will maintain your hen's interest and keep them coming back for more tasty fun with their favourite chicken toy, time and time again. Slow Feed ReleaseThanks to its carefully designed treat dispenser the Peck Toy releases its contents slowly over a period of time when pecked at by playful hens. This means it not only provides an engaging and lasting challenge for your flock but it is also an ideal way to make your chicken treats last longer. The slow release nature of the Peck Toy also helps to guard against a dominant few hens having all the fun and gives the whole flock a chance to get stuck in. Boredom Busting FunNot only will your hens have a lot of fun playing with the Peck Toy, it also encourages and provides a healthy outlet for natural chicken behaviours such as pecking and foraging. Unlike with traditional chicken feeders, the random scattering of treats that occurs when the toy is pecked ensures your chickens will have to work for their rewards and it presents them with an interesting challenge. Providing added enrichment and mental stimulation to your hens routine not only helps to keep boredom at bay but it is also proven to improve flock behaviour. "My girls absolutely love their peck toy, I started out using it just for treats but now I also use it for their feed because it's such a great activity for them. It's so fun watching them peck at it, they got the hang of it straight away and honestly I can't imagine using anything else now." Helen Two Legendary DesignsThe Peck Toy is available in two great designs - both hold the same amount of treats and are quick and easy to install - and each provide chickens with their own unique blend of challenge and intrigue. The dispenser for both versions of the toy measures approx 15cm x 8.5cm and holds approx 300g corn (0.52 liters). It has 27 holes of 4mm width spaced evenly around all sides. The Poppy Peck ToyChickens can’t help falling in love with the Poppy Peck Toy. It simply pushes into the ground at your chosen location before getting all shook up as the treat dispenser attached to the top of the flexible pole gets pecked at. The pole provides a varying amount of spring which flicks the treats randomly from the dispenser for your hens to forage and enjoy. With an assembled height of approximately 52cm, the Poppy Peck Toy is the king of hentertainment. "AMAZING! Keeps my chickens entertained! They love it! And it's very easy to use" Poppy The Pendant Peck ToyWith the Pendant Peck Toy, the suspended feed dispenser sways when pecked at resulting in a fun moving target for your chickens to hone in on. It comes complete with an adjustable string to allow it to be hung from your Eglu Run, your Poletree Chicken Perch or the roof of any kind of chicken run.Supplied with a 100cm length of string, the Pendant Peck Toy is the champion of chicken feeders. Easy Re-Fill DispenserThe dispenser can be simply unscrewed for refilling and cleaning. To refill, simply unscrew the dispenser from it’s attachment and use it to scoop up your chosen treats before reattaching. When cleaning the dispenser we recommend using a non-scratch sponge and washing up liquid in warm soapy water. The dispenser is also dishwasher safe. Hentertainment of the Highest OrderYour birds love to perch and not just in their house at night. During the day you've probably noticed that they will happily hop onto a wheelbarrow handle, the back of a chair or even on the edge of flower pot. It’s an instinct that comes from the very earliest chickens that lived in forests and today's domestic hens still have a natural desire to perch from the highest available point. Fits all Chicken Runs Whether you have an Eglu Chicken Coop or an Omlet Walk-In Chicken Run or a DIY chicken coop… the Omlet Chicken Perch will fit them all. This innovative perch for chickens has a special connector which clamps around any chicken wire or chicken mesh leaving a secure and very neat looking finish. It’s one of the easiest and cheapest ways you can add a perch to your chicken run that your hens will use every day. Extend and Reduce Length to Fit your Run ExactlyIf you require a longer perch then you can simply attach two bars together using the strong, rust free aluminium perch connector supplied with the 2 meter / 6ft chicken perch. We don’t recommend extending beyond 2m unless you provide your own additional support to the perch. You can shorten the perch by sawing it to the correct length. The perch connector and end caps neatly cover any cut surfaces. Attach Directly to Any Surface You can install the Chicken Perch inside any wooden chicken coop or timber run so that your hens may use it for during the day. Simply screw the perch into the wooden walls of your coop using the attachments provided and your chickens will have a brand new sturdy roosting bar to enjoy. Self tapping wood screws are supplied with the Chicken Perch for ease of assembly, so wherever you decide to position yours you can be sure it will be quick and simple to attach. Works Across CornersThe hinges allow the Chicken Perch to be connected either from one side of a run to the other or at an angle across the corner of a run, giving you the flexibility you need to make the most of the space within your chicken setup.Your chickens will love having a perch in their run and you can even add several at different heights to give your flock a choice of perches. Whilst it might not seem like an obvious activity, a static perch is actually one of the best additions you can make to your chickens run. And if you have a big flock of chickens, you can add several perches in different locations. Easy to fit and your hens will love it, order your Omlet Chicken Perch today! Specifications Made from naturally weather resistant eucalyptus, the perch is a comfortable size for bantams as well as large breeds of chickens to grip. Eucalyptus is a very hard and strong wood, as it's a natural material you will find some splitting along the length of the pole, this is not a defect and is part of the wood's characteristics. It comes untreated, you can use it straight out the box or you can use a pet safe varnish, paint or wood stain. To get longer life from your perch we recommend you paint, varnish or stain it. Fits all chicken runs. It can be used as an outdoor chicken perch or indoor perch for chickens.
