Unfortunately this doesn’t seem to be working for our eggs… the eggs get stuck and I have to manually move them… not sure if it is a design issue or my eggs… but sad because I was really looking for this!
Hi Clem, Sorry to disappoint! Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately!!) eggs are not round like golf balls and will not roll easily down the Egg Skelter. Some will move, others need a helping hand depending on the angle, size can also impact on how they move. Hence the name Egg Skelter! The key feature is essentially about storing eggs in date order -which it does brilliantly! 😊

The latest egg shelter I bought is a Christmas present as I've had mine for a number of years, so I think that speaks volumes. Excellent way to keep up to date with a continuous supply if eggs!

The egg coaster looks great, holds a good amount of eggs but doesn't work as I had hoped. Eggs down roll down when you remove one. Maybe if the angle was a bit steeper they would?

I've never regretted running a small mdomestic flock of layers. And now with shortages and dramatic change in the commercial sector, it's even better. But I've always been a bit worried that I might be using last week's eggs last. I even wrote notes on them sometimes. That's over with the skelter. And the bench-top footprint is not much more than a carton.

Fortunately I'd read other reviews, so I was prepared... this egg skelter doesn't "work" in the sense that the eggs don't roll well down it, and they get paused or snagged on supporting members. HOWEVER, it seems otherwise well built, is a great colour (I ordered red) and still helps to keep eggs stored in date order. A real shame about the rolling, but still earns a place on my kitchen bench and I'm happy.

Postage was very fast! Product does exactly what I says it does although some eggs don’t naturally roll down into position. Holds eggs in a smart tidy way and means you’re always taking the oldest eggs first. Would recommend.

You must lay the eggs on their side. Mine doesn’t fit 24 ,20 is all that fit and they don’t always roll all the way.

Looks lovely but angle not great enough for the eggs to move themselves along as you use the eggs. But at least it’s a nice way to know which ones to use first.

Best at Room Temperature
Do you keep your eggs in the fridge? Most chefs recommend storing eggs at room temperature for the best cooking results, whether you're a master of meringues or you can just about rustle up an omelette.
Delia Smith (well known UK cookery author), says “with room temperature eggs, the whites and yolks will combine easier when whisking...eggs will disperse more evenly into the batter, making for even cooking and a lighter texture.”
Another reason to store eggs at room temperature is that the shells are porous, meaning they can absorb the flavours of strong foods if stored in the fridge.
The Egg Skelter is a convenient way of storing eggs in date order, at room temperature.
When cooking, just take eggs from the bottom of the Skelter, and the rest will roll down.
Keep Eggs in Date Order
Not only will the Egg Skelter allow you to store eggs at room temperature, but it will keep them in date order too. By adding eggs to the back of the Skelter and taking them from the front, you will ensure that you always use the oldest egg first. This is particularly handy for chicken keepers, when eggs are collected on a daily basis. No more spending time on organising eggs and no more wastage. Hooray!
Easy to Use Egg Holder
Now, we know this is called an Egg Skelter, but that doesn't mean your delicate, precious eggs want to be hurtled down at 50mph. It is not a toy, and eggs will break if they pick up speed (sorry to spoil the fun). When adding eggs to the Skelter, we recommend placing them gently behind the most recent addition. When you need to use an egg, simply remove the one at the front and the others will move down to their new positions (sometimes with a helping hand). Please note as eggs are not round like golf balls they will not all roll down evenly. Hence the name Egg Skelter!
