Specifications Made from naturally weather resistant eucalyptus, the perch is a comfortable size for bantams as well as large breeds of chickens to grip. Eucalyptus is a very hard and strong wood, as it's a natural material you will find some splitting along the length of the pole, this is not a defect and is part of the wood's characteristics. Chook Grow does not contain any coccidiostat (which the Chicks Choice does) There is a 3 to 4% difference in the protein levels which we feel is significant – so if you can keep them on the Chicks Choice then that is what we recommend.

The Coop Light is a wonderfully practical addition to your chicken coop as it helps to encourage chickens to go back into their coop or run when it gets dark. Powered by the control panel of the Automatic Chicken Coop Door, the coop light will automatically come on 5 minutes before the door closes and turns off once the door is fully closed.
For your convenience, the Coop Light can be manually switched on at any time with the press of a button on the Auto Door control panel. This is particularly useful if you get home after dark and need to remove eggs or check that your hens are safely roosting. The coop light will automatically turn itself off 2 minutes later.
The Coop Light is easy to install and can be attached to the inside an Eglu Coop or any wooden chicken coop. How to Clean a Timber Hen HouseDepending on what system you use it should be done at least once or twice a year or more often if you have a red mite issue. We recommend every 4 to 12 weeks. Please wear a nose and mouth protector when undertaking this job due to all the fine dander and dust particles which could carry all sorts of nasty bacteria or fungi. We use a wide-mouthed shovel brush, pan, paint scraper and big plastic bin to clean our houses. Remove the bulk of litter using the shovel and then sweep out the rest with a brush and pan and then using a scrapper remove any necessary stubborn bits. Sweep out. Mix up Poultry Safeguard Concentrate to the correct dilution (see instructions on the bottle) and spray onto dry timbers. For residual red mite control, we recommend using Appletons De-Mite Powder in your hen house on a regular basis. If your hen house smells bad and is attracting flies then something is not working. A chook house should have no odour and be a sweet-smelling home for your chooks.
How to Clean an Omlet Chicken CoopEmpty the dropping tray out regularly (daily if you prefer or weekly) and replace with a thin layer of fresh wood shavings. Once a month we recommend cleaning roosting bars and droppings tray with cleaning out the nest box. Washing the plastic trays and bars is recommended. This is a good time to check for red mite and other creepy crawlies! For residual control dust roosting bars, perch rails and nest box bedding with Appletons De-Mite Powder. Every 3 to 6 months we recommend giving your eglu a thorough clean from top to toe. We use a water blaster for this set on a wide-angle nozzle. Poultry Safeguard used at is maintenance dose works well. Please rinse well with potable water. Your Egu should look as good as new after its clean!

Coxiprol is essential to have handy when raising young birds.
Coccidiosis is an intestinal parasite that exists just about everywhere. It can take a heavy toll on chicks, starting from about three weeks of age. The parasite multiplies greatly in the gut of the chick, and vast numbers of "oocysts" (think of them as eggs) come out in the manure. Chicks raised on litter floors scratch and peck at the litter, looking for food, and become infected. The explosive multiplication of the coccidia can lead to dead, stunted, and sick chicks. Chicks that are exposed to only low levels of coccidia become immune without becoming sick. Control is achieved by breaking the reproductive cycle. Chicks raised on wire floors don't get coccidiosis because they don't have enough contact with the manure. Chicks raised on free-range from a very early age tend not to get it because they also don't have enough exposure. Chicks raised on old litter (used for at least six months) tend not to get it because the litter eventually harbours microscopic creatures that eat coccidia. Medicated chick starter contains drugs that suppress coccidia directly. Wet litter, crowding, intermittent feeding, and any type of stress tend to increase coccidiosis. If the feeders are empty, the chicks will spend more time nosing around in the litter. If you have an outbreak of coccidiosis, - the first signs are usually visible as ‘bloody’ poop.
A must-have if hatching and raising your own chicks!Treating CoccidiosisAnticoccidial drugs are very effective. The danger zone is usually around 3 to 7 weeks. Keep chicks on a crumble that contains low levels of coccidiostat. With a serious outbreak, you need to put a coccidiostat in the water, since sick chicks that will not eat will still drink. It is worth having an anticoccidial drug-like Coxiprol on hand as if caught earlier enough and treated the chicks bounce back quickly.
