1/8" Plastic Water Nipple | Poultry & Rabbits
Use nipple drinkers for a clean drink. Small push-operated water nipple suitable for poultry and rabbits. 1/8" Nipples NPT Thread - Nipples can be installed directly into any plastic or alkathene pipes or the base of recycled plastic containers or drums. Very light action, closed by water pressure only. Designed for gravity feed only. NOT suitable for high-pressure mains. No spring or O-ring. Length app. 4cm. Plastic body with a stainless steel pin. How To InstallSimply use a 9mm drill bit and make a small hole in the bottom of your chosen water container. The hole needs to be just smaller than the threaded bit on the nipple. Self screw into the bottom of the container. Advisable to seal around with sealer. Using water nipples helps to reduce water spills where disease would live and breed under open water dishes. Tips for training chooks onto nipples The golden rule for teaching birds to use any type of new watering system like nipples is to remove all other sources of water! As long as they have what they are familiar with they will use it first and will never try something new. If their only choice is to drink from that new shiny metal thingy hanging under the pipe or bucket, it will only take one thirsty bird to try it and show everybody elsewhere to get a drink. To teach your birds to use the nipples remember the golden rule - remove all other sources of water!When you have installed the new nipple system, simply gather your chooks around and show them by tapping the nipples with your fingers which cause water to leak. That will get their attention and they learn very quickly. We recommend 3-4 chooks per nipple.

If the preferred option for brooding chicks is a hanging lamp, then the heat emitters and infra-red lamps are a good choice.It is well known that prolonged light can disrupt growth rates and damage eyes of developing chicks as well as causing restlessness which can also lead to pecking issues in chicks. If your preferred option is to have some light available, we now stock high quality 250 watts tempered (Hardened) glass Infra-Red lamps. Infra-red will still emit a gentle red glow which is proven to be less damaging to eyes than prolonged exposure to white light. (These are commonly seen in restaurants keeping food warm) This will also reduce the risks associated with restlessness still allowing growing chicks to rest without the interruption of bright light.Note: These heat lamps produce an intense heat, therefore it is important a good quality ceramic lamp holder is used at all times. Suitable to use in the heavy-duty heat lamp set or in the ceramic bulb holders. For those that prefer no light (and no glass), we recommend the ceramic heat emitters. These do a fantastic job of radiating heat and giving the chicks the most natural way of growing. We have found chicks raised under radiant heat grow well, happy and fast.

Contains antibacterial agents that will help cleanse minor skin wounds and abrasions and support the healing process. Cannibalism and feather pecking are complex behavioural problems of chickens. Boredom can increase the incidence and can lead to minor wounds and infection. Symptoms include pecking at the feet, vent, head, wings and feather pulling. A must-have in the poultry first-aid kit! HOW TO USE Disposable gloves must be worn Shake well before use Spray for approximately 3-4 seconds around the pecked area Repeat every 3-5 days until pecking has stopped Cannibalism and feather pecking are complex behavioural problems found in both poultry and game birds worldwide. It can affect any birds in small backyard flocks through to the large commercial flocks. One day all is fine in the pen then the next time you look it has started. There are many reasons for it happening but some of the main reasons are overcrowding, boredom, stress, pecking order, poor quality feed and disease. If it happens in your flock you need to move fast and treat birds and if necessary remove wounded birds. Symptoms include pecking at the feet (usually very young chicks) and the vents, tails, wings and sometimes the head and necks of young and mature birds. It can also include feather pulling. Cannibalism and feather pecking may lead to wounding leaving the skin open to bacterial infection. In severe cases, this leads to the loss of blood and leads to general anaemia. If the feather pecking and cannibalism is not caught in time birds can be almost eaten alive and sometimes 'gutted' if the wounds start around the tail and vent. If you find it in your flock act quickly. Most of us that keep poultry will find this a very useful spray as feather-pecking can be a real problem at times in flocks. Please note if feather pecking has been happening for a while in your flock the 'action of feather pecking' becomes a habit. Habits can be hard to break. Removing the pecker (the bird responsible and usually the bird showing no visible signs of feather loss) from the situation is often the best thing to do. Treat the affected birds in the flock and give them an opportunity to regrow their feathers - which can take a good 4 to 8 weeks. If your chickens have wounds from pecking please remove them and treat them with Nettex Wound Spray. Do not leave chickens with visible fresh wounds in your flock as it is too tempting for other chickens to peck them.
