What Size is Best?
The large step on feeder or mini (space saver) step on feeder?The large size is more suitable for a larger walk-in hen house especially if you plan to position the feeder inside the hen house or outside in the poultry run (protected from the weather) where there is plenty of space. The large step on is twice as wide as the mini and therefore offers more hens the opportunity to feed at once (+ it also holds more food.) The mini 6kg version is perfect for smaller flocks living in movable chicken coops where the footprint of the coop is small and space is a premium. Using two mini step on feeders in a larger flock (instead of one large one) can work well as two feeding stations can dissipate any possible dominance over the feeder by a bossy hen/s and also help when introducing new birds.

Too many mice running around?
This double-entry mouse trap is low-line so can sit under furniture or out of sight. There is an entry each side. As the mouse walks in the entry the floor drops down and lets it through. The floor then rises up again preventing escape. The trap is all galvanised but the top is clear plastic. This serves to encourage other mice in once one is trapped. (Mice like to socialise in small places.) It also allows a view of bait, and allows you to see when it needs emptying. Lid opens for baiting and removal of mice.

New Zealand birds are quirky and colourful, and they also have unique feeding needs. Topflite has designed a Nectar Feeder that serves native garden birds safely and is super-easy to clean and refill.
This design keeps feathers and droppings well clear of food with its wide, thin perching ring and the red colour of the base mimics native flowers to help birds find it easily. Set-up Instructions: Unscrew the glass bottle and fill it with water, sugar water or Topflite Wild Bird Nectar mix. Screw into the base firmly but gently. Avoid over-tightening the bottle in the feeder base thread. The best ratio for feeding is one part sugar or Topflite Wild Bird Nectar to four parts water. Throw out any liquid not consumed after 3 days to avoid it fermenting. Dirty bird feeders are dangerous to bird populations as they can spread pathogens: thoroughly clean the feeder with gentle soap and warm water before every refill, or run it through the dishwasher.
Feeding Guide: Place the feeder high and out of predators’ reach but close to native trees and shrubs (where possible)—place it near other wild bird food sources. Larger native birds are more likely to visit a feeder already in use by their smaller feathered friends. Where possible, plant native shrubs as long-term sources of natural nectar and berries.

Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does nectar in bird feeders go stale or ferment?Yes, it does. While we humans are partial to the odd fermented beverage, old sugar water or nectar is not good for birds. Leftover nectar or sugar water should be drained from the feeder after 2 - 3 days, and the feeder should be thoroughly cleaned to prevent bacterial growth.
2) Should I use white or brown sugar for feeding native birds?We recommend white or raw sugar. There is no scientific consensus that brown sugar offers benefits over and above white sugar, and equally, there’s no evidence it does any harm. We use raw sugar in our Wild Bird Nectar because it’s minimally processed and provides the golden colour that we know helps birds to locate a food source.
3) What ratio of sugar to water should I use in my nectar feeder?Manaaki Whenua and other researchers recommend a sugar concentration of around 20% (one cup of sugar per litre of water) This mimics the sugar concentration of natural plant nectar consumed by New Zealand nectar-sipping birds.

TOP TIP: If your hens are older layers or set in their ways we recommend installing the nest liner and then covering it with some of their original nesting material (straw/hay/shavings) Slowly reduce the amount of the original nest material until they adapt to the new liner. Remember chickens are creatures of habit and a sudden change is not a good thing - trick them slowly into a new habit!

Maxi 24 Advance incubator holds 24 hens' eggs, thanks to Brinsea's new, innovative system of egg disk quadrants. These quadrants simply clip together to allow eggs of one size to be incubated or eggs of different sizes to be incubated together when using different species specific quadrants. All quadrants can be mixed and matched.

NipMist is perfect for play time and makes an ideal cat training tool. Keep roaming cats near home or away from certain areas by spraying areas you want them to return to, e.g. cat bed or scratch post.
Directions Shake bottle well (2-3 seconds) before spraying. Spray any object that you want the cat to play with. The essential oil in NipMist will evaporate with time (2-5 days) - re spray as needed.

This is a high flow, multi-directional nipple which allows water to flow in larger droplets than standard drinker nipples, even when pushed sideways unlike other nipples which only allow water through when push upwards thus making it easier for your pets to drink from with minimal effort.Just like all nipple drinkers, these must be fitted to a gravity water system, and are not suitable for mains pressure. Tips for training chooks onto nipples
The golden rule for teaching birds to use any type of new watering system like nipples is to remove all other sources of water! As long as they have what they are familiar with they will use it first and will never try something new. If their only choice is to drink from that new shiny metal thingy hanging under the pipe or bucket, it will only take one thirsty bird to try it and show everybody else where to get a drink. To teach your birds to use the nipples, remember the golden rule - remove all other sources of water! When installing the new nipple system, simply gather your chooks around and show them by tapping the nipples with your fingers which cause water to leak. That will get their attention and they learn very quickly.
We recommend 1-3 chooks per nipple.
