Wooden Nest Eggs | A Pair

Description

Our recommended choice.

  • These are full, natural size hens eggs.
  • 70mm long x 46mm in diameter.
  • Painted over the wood for a very smooth finish and are most consistent to real eggs.
  • Sold in pairs.

These are the brood or fake eggs we like to use at Appletons.

Keep a pair in the nest box to encourage your hens where to lay.

We recommend investing in some false eggs. Very handy to have for a few reasons! We place them in the laying boxes when pullets are POL (point of lay) to encourage them to lay in the nest boxes. Hens will go and lay where there is usually an egg or two so having a pair of fake eggs permanently in the nest box/es is a good idea. Collect the fresh eggs daily and leave the fake eggs as an indicator to your hens. Slipping some wooden eggs under a broody hen to keep her sitting is another reason to have a pair...and fake eggs are solid so cannot be pecked at... collect fresh eggs often, to reduce the risk of hens eating eggs.

          Dummy eggs

I purchased 4 wooden dummy eggs, which arrived by courier the next day! My new pullets have now got the message and are laying in the nests. Thank you Appletons, excellent service and a great product.

          Wooden eggs

These are great. Hens lay in the nests you leave them in and they arent too realistic so the kids wont bring them to the house when they collect the eggs 😆

          Wooden nest eggs

Thank you so much, these have been amazing & kept ducks using the same nest which they have built up beautifully now (after shifting sites 3x in disgust with my egg raiding!) 👍👍

          Wooden nest eggs

Nice looking eggs, good shape & weight, but super large - no where near even our large eggs. Possibly better suited for ducks or geese than hens. Our hens are not sure either. I put them in the nest they were laying consistently in and they immediately started laying in other nests.

          Artificial Eggs

Thank you, I was a bit worried that the eggs, being a bit bigger than those laid by my chickens, would not work, but was wrong. I no longer have a daily egg hunt as our free-rangers lay where the artificial eggs are now.

          Wooden Brood Eggs - Pair

These eggs have encouraged the birds to lay in the next box I purchased with them - I have also placed one in the chicken house and the chooks have started to lay in the same box as the wooden egg which is very handy - no more stretching to reach the furthest corner of the chook house.
