The first step to deterring predators is to identify them. Each ‘killer’ has a method of entry, attack and kill, so if you wish to play detective then be observant and look for clues. Examine where, how, and when birds turn up dead, mutilated or missing and by a process of elimination work out which animal/bird could be your prime suspect.
