Nest Box Liner | Eglu Go & Go UP Chicken Coops

Description

These nest liners work very well!

Thumbs up all round from both the hens and us!Ā šŸ‘šŸ”šŸ„š Lovely, clean eggs to collect each day.Ā We have seenĀ no broken eggs since using the chicken astroturf.Ā  Hens can sometimes kick the wood shavings out the bowl when fluffing around to lay. With the chicken astroturf, they cannot, so eggs are laid directly on top. Perfect! - to await your collection.Ā šŸ˜Š

The advantage of using Chicken Astroturf in your Eglu GoĀ Chicken Coop:

  • Fewer dirty shelled eggs, fewer cracks and breakages.Ā The open structure of the new nest pad combined with the special shape and high flexibility of its individual blades ensures that the eggs rare sit on top and do not break.
  • Fewer outside eggsĀ Hens find nests fitted withĀ Astroturf attractive. They seem to prefer Astroturf to any other material.Ā
  • Cheaper and more profitable Unhygienic litter is now a thing of the past, as is the intensive labourĀ needed to keep replacing it. Astroturf lasts for several years. We recommend buying two squares to alternate between cleans.
  • Easy to install and maintain Ā The open structure enables more dirt to fall through and the new design prevents dirt from sticking to the nest pad. The mat is very easy to clean.

TOP TIP: If your hens are older layers or set in their ways we recommend installing the nest liner and then covering it with some of their original nesting material (straw/hay/shavings)Ā  Slowly reduce the amount of the original nest material until they adapt to the new liner. Remember chickens are creatures of habit and a sudden changeĀ is not a good thing -Ā  trick them slowly into a new habit!

          Hens a little reluctant

Weā€™ve had one egg laid in it - but that hen has now joined her sisters in finding nice little spots in the long grass. However it probably be ok if the hens were contained in a yard of some sort. Ours are totally free range.

          Nest box Liner

Unfortunately my chickens do not seem to like the liner and the only way I can get them to lay on it is if I put a lot of straw around and over the liner which is not intended, Iā€™m sure.

          Nest box liner.

This nest liner together with a fake egg finally convinced my chickens to actually lay their eggs in the Eglu nest box instead of on the floor, so I am very happy with the purchase. It is very easy to install. However, poo gets stuck in it every day (especially if one hen sits on the nest during the night) meaning it has to be removed daily, cleaned under the water hose, left to dry and then re-attached. It would be quicker to collect poo from a nest full of wood chips or hay, but my chickens didn't like that and just kicked it all around. Having 2 would definitely help with quicker cleaning.

          Perfect nest material

A solution to my hens scratching out their nesting material. This is easily fastened in place. Had to sprinkle their accustomed shavings over the top for 1st days, but shook the Astroturf out and they have been very happy laying nice clean eggs since. As one hen goes broody frequently I put a ceramic caserole lid over the nest at night which also solved that problem. Hens love being shut in their Go these freezing winter nights.

Great idea, easy to clean and no need to have hay or sawdust on hand. Non messy too!
