  • Nest-o-Matic Roll-Away Laying Box Nest-o-Matic Roll-Away Laying Box

    Roll-Away Laying Box | Nest-o-Matic

    17 reviews

Rollaway nest boxes make going away for a few days easy! The Nest-o-Matic is a comfortable and sheltered place for your hens to lay eggs. Eggs roll out by themselves into a covered tray, preventing them from being destroyed by the hens, or dirtied. This system ensures that all of your eggs can be collected quickly, easily and without hassle!  Benefits: Discourage broodiness in hens, as there are no eggs to sit on, hens will be less likely to go clucky. The roll out laying nest is supplied with a soft nest pad which is made of antibacterial polyethene. The softness of the nest pad ensures a comfortable area for the hens to lay. As required, the pad simply lifts out to be washed, dried and returned to the nest for tomorrow's eggs - thus keeping the nest clean, tidy and hygienic, giving your hens the ultimate comfort and with absolutely no hay, straw or shavings to bother with will reduce time spent cleaning your coop. You will be collecting clean fresh eggs every day, no more soiled eggs to wash, especially during the wetter months. The nest pad slopes down towards the collecting tray. The sloping floor can be set at three different angles where the eggs will naturally roll into the collecting tray where up to 12 eggs will be held at once. The lid of the collecting tray hinges and gives you easy access to the eggs. The curtain on the laying nest ensures the hens can lay eggs in a dark and sheltered area, giving your hen the privacy some coops lack, which can cause hens to seek other places to lay. The sloping roof of the Nest-o-Matic prevents the poultry from sitting on the laying box thus keeping it tidy. Multiple Nest-o-Matics can be attached to each other with the supplied mounting kit. This way you can connect several Nest-O-Matics to each other depending on your flock size! The Nest-o-Matic is made of durable material. The plastic parts are made of UV resistant and high-quality ABS and the body is galvanised sheet metal with a minimum of 1 mm thick. The tray base and lid are made of tough, long-lasting ABS plastic. Note: The Nest-o-Matic laying nest is delivered unassembled as a flat pack kitset. Assembly is easy and will only take minutes to assemble. Assembled size: 49cm length x 33cm width x 42.5cm high.

Wooden Nest Eggs | A Pair

    11 reviews

Our recommended choice. These are full, natural size hens eggs. 70mm long x46mm in diameter. Painted over the wood for a very smooth finish and are most consistent to real eggs. Sold in pairs. These are the brood or fake eggs we like to use at Appletons. Keep a pair in the nest box to encourage your hens where to lay. We recommend investing in some false eggs. Very handy to have for a few reasons! We place them in the laying boxes when pullets are POL (point of lay) to encourage them to lay in the nest boxes. Hens will go and lay where there is usually an egg or two so having a pair of fake eggs permanently in the nest box/es is a good idea. Collect the fresh eggs daily and leave the fake eggs as an indicator to your hens. Slipping some wooden eggs under a broody hen to keep her sitting is another reason to have a pair...and fake eggs are solid so cannot be pecked at... collect fresh eggs often, to reduce the risk of hens eating eggs.

Nest Box Liner | Eglu Go & Go UP Chicken Coops

    6 reviews

These nest liners work very well! Thumbs up all round from both the hens and us! 👍🐔🥚 Lovely, clean eggs to collect each day. We have seen no broken eggs since using the chicken astroturf.  Hens can sometimes kick the wood shavings out the bowl when fluffing around to lay. With the chicken astroturf, they cannot, so eggs are laid directly on top. Perfect! - to await your collection. 😊 The advantage of using Chicken Astroturf in your Eglu Go Chicken Coop: Fewer dirty shelled eggs, fewer cracks and breakages. The open structure of the new nest pad combined with the special shape and high flexibility of its individual blades ensures that the eggs rare sit on top and do not break. Fewer outside eggs Hens find nests fitted with Astroturf attractive. They seem to prefer Astroturf to any other material.  Cheaper and more profitable Unhygienic litter is now a thing of the past, as is the intensive labour needed to keep replacing it. Astroturf lasts for several years. We recommend buying two squares to alternate between cleans. Easy to install and maintain  The open structure enables more dirt to fall through and the new design prevents dirt from sticking to the nest pad. The mat is very easy to clean. TOP TIP: If your hens are older layers or set in their ways we recommend installing the nest liner and then covering it with some of their original nesting material (straw/hay/shavings)  Slowly reduce the amount of the original nest material until they adapt to the new liner. Remember chickens are creatures of habit and a sudden change is not a good thing -  trick them slowly into a new habit!

Well worth the investment! Extra performance nest pads. The Astroturf Nest Pad is made from a special polyethylene composition. The blades are tapered for better wear and resistance. The rounded tops contribute to the hens' comfort, help to ensure a better egg roll-off and reduce the number of feathers clinging to the shell. Astroturf is suitable for both backyard and commercial layers. The chestnut colour was selected after intensive research. • Wood Shavings | Bedding Wood Shavings | Bedding

    Wood Shavings | Bedding

    47 reviews

Reap the benefits of using untreated wood shavings. Also ideal for raising chicks and in nest boxes. We recommend the use of wood shavings in a deep litter bed system. Shavings are better than wood chip or sawdust as shavings offer nice curls of timber rather than dust or chips. Deep litter is a term used to describe the floor of a chook house where loose dry material (wood shavings) are used. If mixed with chicken manure and additional dry litter as required, deep litter will not need removing for 6 to 12 months. If looked after, deep litter has no smell and ends up as beautiful compost (with no added weeds!) We do not recommend the use of hay or straw in a deep bed litter system. It is not as effective as wood shavings in absorbing moisture and carries possible mould and fungi spores which can affect the respiratory health of pets (and humans!) Hen laying an egg in an Eglu cube nest box

How many nest boxes do I need?
Remember one nest box for every 4-5 hens is recommended. The funny thing about hens is that they all usually choose to lay in the same nest box often all sitting on top each other when it is laying time. Nest boxes should be positioned away from and lower than perches. Perches should be removable for cleaning and therefore making it easy when spot-checking for mites.

Keep a pair of fake eggs in the nest box to encourage your hens where to lay.
