Makes merging two flocks a breeze!
Each house is 1.2m square with a solid plywood floor, 3 good sized nest boxes and a closable pop-hole to the outside.
The joining pop-hole between the two houses allows you to use the duo apex as either two separate smaller hen houses or one larger one.
We offer two different types of perching options: single rail as per the photo or two tiered drop down perching. Both work well. If keeping 7 to 10 chickens on a regular basis in one house we recommend the two tier perching.
We can place the chicken access pop-holes (one for each house) wherever you would like them. In the front netting panel below the nesting boxes OR in the end panels alongside the person doors. Please let us know on ordering where you would like them placed.
There are a few pointers worth remembering: You do not want to create a through draught in the hen house so think about where your prevailing wind comes from and position of outside runs. We can also add additional pop-holes to give you more options in the future. Please let us know if you would like additional pop-holes as they do incur an additional cost.
Single Rail Perch
If you are keeping up to 6 birds in each house we recommend opting for the standard single rail perch system. This is one single perch 1.2m long and can sleep a maximium of 6 birds. The perch is removable and sits on a rail in the house. Can be easily removed for cleaning and allows for more room in the house than the two tier drop down system.
Two Tier Drop-Down Perch
If you are going to keep your houses 'packed to the max' with chooks then the two tier drop- down perch system is the one for you. This works off the back panel or divider panel depending on where the nest boxes are situated. The drop-down perch is two tiered and is attached to the wall and supported by a prop off the floor. It can be folded up against the wall when not in use for easy cleaning. It does, however, take up more room in the house. This option works best with drop down perch attached to the back wall and the nestboxes situated on the front netting panel. Please let us know which option you prefer.
We can design your Duo Apex Hen House to match your house roof colour and that of other outbuildings. This option looks very smart and is worth the upgrade. Colorsteel Endura have a standard range of colours. Select one of their popular colours from their range and we can upgrade from the standard galvanised iron to the colour of your choice. Roof iron, flashings and rolled gutter will all match. Photo alongside shows a Karaka roof upgrade .
One rolled gutter comes as standard on the front side with the netting panel. We can add a second rolled gutter in galvanised iron if required or if you choose to have a roof colour then select the coloursteel version. A rolled gutter look smart and also take away from the sharp corro iron edge which for some folk can be at head height. If purchasing a duo apex with nest boxes in the rear panel we will position the rolled gutter at the rear over the nest boxes. In this case we highly recommend opting for 2 rolled gutters.
The Duo Apex Hen House is available with an optional standard run (out the front or the back of the hen house). Having an enclosed, secure area off any hen house is a good idea. This gives your chickens in both houses the opportunity to get outside. The chooks from one house can free range out in the paddock/garden whilst the chooks from the other house are confined to the run. A run will give you added peace of mind knowing your hens are safe from visiting predators or a good way to keep your girls out of your precious flower garden or from discovering your veggie garden!
Please remember laying boxes need to be accessible from outside of the run enclosure. so think carefully as to where you place them.
Optional run size : 2.4m wide x 1.8m high x 2.6m long. The person door to run can be positioned in any panel. Please remember a level surface is required for assembly. If you require a customised run to suit your requirements we are happy to assist.
Depending on your poultry needs we can customise our hen houses and runs to suit your requirements. The hen house in the photo is our standard DUO Apex House but with nest boxes at the rear and a double optional run off the front. We also offer the option of a Double Extended Standard Run which takes the length of the run out to 5m.
We recommend opting for the fully enclosed versions as it makes the run predator proof and allows all us chook fanciers to keep all types of breeds. Also keeps possums and climbing predators out!
If more space is required then two additional panels can be added giving the run a full length of 5m. We also offer a fully enclosed version of the run. Netting and timber panels fully enclose the top and a small additional panel sits nicely and neatly between the rolled gutter on the roof and the top roof panel. This will ensure all cats and other predators are kept out and your chooks are secure within.it also makes the enclose more structurally solid.

I have increased my flock and needed more quality housing. Appleton’s are always my go to for a great product and advice. The duo apex design is perfect. Ready made for us so no uncomfortable DIY moments between hubby and myself.
Very happy with our new coop. Would recommend these products to others
We set the ‘Duo’ up this morning - it took a couple of hours to put together and longer to get the site level. It fitted together perfectly and the instructions were helpful and simple. Thank you. It looks fantastic and ready for the chooks to arrive this coming week.
So, 6 months on: I'm a happy camper! The only advice I would offer re: your marketing was that I hadn't figured out the extent to which the house was so 'ready to assemble'. I'd set aside a day with one of our 20 year olds to put it together, and we were done in an hour.
Thanks, great product!
